Brief History of Tensor

2016

George Kepes, founder of Tensor, passes away. After years of working with his father, Robert Kepes takes the lead.

2015

Raymond Coe becomes VP of Operations and Tensor develops revolutionary, heavy-duty oscillator.

2010

Raymond Coe, former Tensor Control Systems Designer, rejoins company.

2002

Tensor survives an industry-wide meltdown and maintains position as a leader in the field.

1999

Tensor develops a complete Premise Jacketing line.

1998

Tensor expands into USA and incorporates in Hickory, North Carolina. Ken Luterbach, Director of Sales, joins company.

1996

Tensor continues to develop new products and sets up a complete cable factory in Shanghai, China.

1993

Tensor moves to current offices and triples manufacturing capacity.

1992

The product line expands — Tensor introduces 100m tape accumulators and complete armoring lines.

1991

Tensor goes global with first international sale.

1986

John Marcelissen joins Tensor. A mechanical engineer from Nortel’s Optical Systems Divisions, he was instrumental in developing Tensor’s welders, oscillators, binders, and SZ strander.

1984

Tensor Machinery Limited founded by George Kepes, Eng.

ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

In 1984 George Kepes founded Tensor Machinery—a company that would become a global force in fiber-optic machinery. He was a visionary engineer with a genius for finding elegant solutions to complex engineering problems. Those who knew him remember his warmth and keen sense of humor. The continued success of Tensor is a testament to George’s vision.
